QR Code Size Guide – Best QR Sizes for Print and Scanning

Choosing the right QR code size makes a big difference. Too small and it won’t scan reliably; too large and it wastes space. Below is a simple guide you can follow, plus size recommendations you can use directly in our generator.

Quick size recommendations

• Business cards: 256–400px (print ~ 2–2.5 cm wide)
• Flyers / menus: 512px (print ~ 3–5 cm wide)
• Posters / signs: 1024px+ (print ~ 6–10 cm wide)

Scanning distance rule (easy)

A common rule is: QR width ≈ scanning distance ÷ 10. Example: if people scan from ~100 cm away, aim for ~10 cm QR width.

Other scanning tips

• Keep a white border around the code (quiet zone).
• Use high contrast (dark code on light background).
• Avoid placing QR codes on glossy reflections.
• Test with multiple phones before printing thousands.
